[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *naHuHaĵás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *naHuHaȷ́ás. By surface analysis, नौ (naú) + अज (ajá). Cognate with Avestan 𐬥𐬀𐬎𐬎𐬁𐬰𐬀 (nauuāza).
