Borrowed from Classical Persian نَاچِیز (nāčīz).[1] By surface analysis, ना- (nā-) +‎ चीज़ (cīz). First attested in c. 1638[2] as Middle Hindi ناچیز (nacyz /⁠nācīz⁠/).
