Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀤𑀸𑀠 (dāḍha), 𑀤𑀁𑀞 (daṃṭha), from Sanskrit दंष्ट्र (daṃṣṭra, fang, tusk; beard), from the root दंश् (daṃś). Compare Punjabi ਜਾੜ੍ਹ / جاڑھ (jāṛh).
