[edit]Inherited from Old Marathi थाटणे (thāṭaṇe, “to plant”), from Sanskrit स्थाप्य (sthāpya, “to be placed”), ultimately from the root स्था (sthā). By surface analysis, थाट (thāṭ) + -णे (-ṇe).
