Etymology

Inherited from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀣𑀭𑀣𑀭𑁂𑀇 (tharatharei), from Sanskrit थरथराय (tharatharāya, root). Ultimately, a reduplication. Related to थरथर (tharthar), थरार (tharār), थरारणे (tharārṇe), Old Marathi 𑘞𑘨𑘞𑘨𑘰𑘽 (tharatharāṃ), 𑘞𑘨𑘰𑘨𑘜𑘹 (tharāraṇe). Compare Gujarati થરથરવું (thartharvũ), Hindustani تَھرْتَھرَانَا (thartharānā) / थरथराना (thartharānā), Punjabi ਥਰਥਰਾਉਣਾ (thartharāuṇā) / تھرتھراؤݨا (thrthrā'oṇā).
