[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *traHtŕ̥ (“protector, saviour”), from *traH- (“to protect”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬚𐬭𐬁𐬙𐬀𐬭 (θrātar, “protector, saviour”).
