Etymology
[edit]Unknown. Possibly onomatopoeic and Sanskritized from some Prakrit form. Related to *𑀝𑀧𑁆𑀧𑁆 (*ṭapp, “to drip”) and *𑀝𑀺𑀧𑁆𑀧𑁆 (*ṭipp, “to squeeze, nip”) (cf. Prakrit 𑀝𑀺𑀧𑁆𑀧𑀻 (ṭippī, “dot above the head”)).
