Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘖𑘲𑘕𑘜𑘹 (jhījaṇe), from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀛𑀺𑀚𑁆𑀚𑀇 (jhijjaï), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *gẓʰiyáti (to perish, decay) (compare Sanskrit क्षीयते (kṣīyate)) from Proto-Indo-European *dʰgʷʰiyéti. Related to झीज (jhīj, wear and tear, loss).
