[edit]Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀛𑀧𑁆𑀧 (*jhappa) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀝𑁆𑀝- (-ṭṭa-). Compare Gujarati ઝાપટું (jhāpṭũ), ઝપેટવું (jhapeṭvũ), Hindustani جَھپَٹْنا (jhapaṭnā) / झपटना (jhapaṭnā), Punjabi ਝਪਟਣਾ (jhapṭaṇā) / جھپٹݨا (jhpṭṇā), Odia ଝପଟ (jhapaṭa), Maithili झपटब (jhapᵊṭab) / 𑒗𑒣𑒙𑒥 (jhapaṭaba).
