Borrowed from Classical Persian زنده باد, from زنده (zinda, alive) + باد (bād, may ... be). Compare Bengali জিন্দাবাদ (jindabad), Gujarati ઝિંદાબાદ (jhindābād), Punjabi ਜ਼ਿੰਦਾਬਾਦ (zindābād).
