Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *ćáṣtay, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *čáštay,[1] from Proto-Indo-European *kʷéḱ-s-ti, from *kʷeḱ- (“to see”). Cognate with Younger Avestan 𐬗𐬀𐬱𐬙𐬈 (cašte).
