Etymology

From चश्म (caśma, eye) +‎ दीद (dīd, sight), ultimately from Classical Persian. Cognate with Sanskrit चक्ष्मदृष्ट (cakṣmadṛṣṭa, eye-seen). Compare Punjabi چشم دید / ਚਸ਼ਮਦੀਦ (caśmadīd).
