Etymology

Inherited from Old Marathi गोष्टी (goṣṭī, “incident, conversation”), from Sanskrit गोष्ठी (goṣṭhī, “conversation”).

Alternatively, Hypercorrection of गोठी (goṭhī), from Prakrit 𑀕𑁄𑀝𑁆𑀞𑀺 (gŏṭṭhi); see discussion. (Can this⁽⁺⁾ etymology be sourced?)

1. story

2. a thing

   Synonym: वस्तू (vastū)

   तो रोज एक ना एक गोष्ट विसरतो.

   to roj ek nā ek goṣṭa visarto.

   He forgets one thing or another everyday.

3. matter, incident

   Synonym: प्रकरण (prakraṇ)

   त्रागा करण्या अगोदर पूर्ण गोष्ट तरी ऐकून घे.

   trāgā karaṇyā agodar pūrṇa goṣṭa tarī aikūn ghe.

   At least listen to the whole matter before making a fuss.
