Borrowed from Classical Persian گله (gilā), from Middle Persian [script needed] (g(y)lk' /⁠gilag⁠/, complaint), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *garȷ́ʰ-. Compare Punjabi ਗਿਲਾ (gilā).
