Inherited from Old Gujarati गाम (gāma), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀕𑀸𑀫 (gāma), from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀕𑀸𑀫 (gāma), from Sanskrit ग्राम (grā́ma), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *grā́mas, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *(H)grā́mas. Cognate with Gujarati ગામ (gām) and Romani gav.
