Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *gálati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *gálati, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷél-e-ti, from *gʷel- (“to drip, dribble, ooze, flow”). Cognate with Albanian gëloj, Old High German quellan (“to well up, to pour out”), Old English cwylla (“spring, source”) (whence English quell).
