Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘏𑘳𑘕 (khuja); from Maharastri Prakrit 𑀓𑀼𑀚𑁆𑀚𑀅 (kujjaa), 𑀔𑀼𑀚𑁆𑀚𑀅 (khujjaa); from 𑀓𑀼𑀚𑁆𑀚 (kujja), 𑀓𑁄𑀚𑁆𑀚 (kojja), 𑀔𑀼𑀚𑁆𑀚 (khujja) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-); from Sanskrit कुब्ज (kubjá). Compare Kannada ಗುಜ್ಜ (gujja), Assamese কুঁজা (kũza).
