Inherited from Prakrit 𑀓𑀼𑀮𑀼𑀁𑀘𑀇 / कुलुंचइ / ಕುಲುಂಚಇ (kuluṃcaï), from Sanskrit कूडयति (kūḍayati), कूळयति (kūḷayati). Related to कोयपनं (koyapna), कोयपं (koypa), कोयपी (koypī). Cognate with Marathi कोळसा (koḷsā), Gujarati કોલસો (kolso), Konkani ಕೊಳ್ಸೊ / कोळसो (koḷso) / kollso.
