[edit]Perhaps from Sanskrit कुटक (kuṭaka, “kind of tree”), कुटका (kuṭkā) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀇𑀓𑀸- (-ikā-). Cognate with Punjabi ਕੁਟਕੀ (kuṭkī).
