Inherited from Prakrit 𑀓𑀼𑀁𑀟 (kuṃḍa), from Sanskrit कुण्ड (kuṇḍa), from Proto-Dravidian *kuṇṭ-a-m. Cognate with Gujarati કુંડ (kuṇḍ) and Assamese কুঁড় (kũr).
