Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀓𑀘𑁆𑀘- (*kacca-) without compensatory lengthening. Displaced Hindi काँचा (kā̃cā).[1] Compare Sanskrit काषण (kāṣaṇa, “unripe”). Cognate with Punjabi ਕੱਚਾ (kaccā), Bengali কাঁচা (kãca).
