[edit]Inherited from Prakrit *𑀏𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀮𑀉𑀢𑁆𑀢 (*ĕkkalaütta), from Sanskrit एकल-पुत्र (ekala-putra, “only son”). Compare Punjabi [script needed] (iklauttā). See also एकल (ekal, “only”).
