[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *Híẓḍay, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hížday, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂eysd- (“to praise, worship laud”). Cognate with Gothic 𐌰𐌹𐍃𐍄𐌰𐌽 (aistan, “to revere”).
