Etymology

    From Proto-Indo-Aryan *íṣṭakaH, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ištaH (brick), possibly from the BMAC substrate.[1][2] Cognate with Avestan 𐬌𐬱𐬙𐬌𐬌𐬀 (ištiia, brick), Persian خشت (xešt, brick).
