Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *HiHā́ya ~ *HiHyŕ̥, possibly from an older Proto-Indo-European perfect *h₁e-h₁óy-e ~ *h₁e-h₁y-ḗr; ultimately from the root *h₁ey- (“to go”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬌𐬌𐬈𐬌𐬌𐬆𐬥 (iieiiən, “will have gone”, 3pl.perf.subj.).
