आमंत्रण
Appearance
Hindi
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Learned borrowing from Sanskrit आमन्त्रण (āmantraṇa).
Pronunciation
[edit]Noun
[edit]आमंत्रण • (āmantraṇ) m
- invitation (to a formal event)
Usage notes
[edit]While आमंत्रण (āmantraṇ) and निमंत्रण (nimantraṇ) both roughly correspond to "invitation", they do not denote the same kind of event. An आमंत्रण (āmantraṇ) is more formal (e.g. a talk or meeting), has fixed reasons for being sent, and usually does not involve a shared meal with the guests. However, the two words are often confused and निमंत्रण (nimantraṇ) tends to have the broader meaning.
Declension
