Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *ā́-gatas (“come, arrived”), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷem-. Cognate with Khotanese 𑀆𑀢 (āta), Parthian [script needed] (āγad, “come”), Bashkardi [script needed] (yaht). By surface analysis, आ (ā) + गम् (gam, root) + -त (-ta).
