  1. to shout out, invoke, call
    • c. 1200 BCE – 1000 BCE, Atharvaveda 2.36.6:
      आक्रन्दय धनपते वरम् आमनसङ् कृणु ।
      सर्वम् प्रदक्षिणङ् कृणु यो वरः प्रतिकाम्यः ॥
      ākrandaya dhanapate varam āmanasaṅ kṛṇu.
      sarvam pradakṣiṇaṅ kṛṇu yo varaḥ pratikāmyaḥ.
      Call out to him, O Lord of Wealth! Make the lover well-inclined.
      Beseat each on your right who is a desirable lover.
  2. to cry with sorrow, lament, weep
