Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Aryan *Háźʰr̥, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Háȷ́ʰr̥, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂éǵʰ-r̥ ~ *h₂ǵʰ-én-s (“day”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬀𐬌𐬌𐬀𐬭 (aiiar, “day”) and possibly Old English dæġ (whence English day).[1]
