Etymology
[edit]Uncertain. Probably borrowed from Dravidian.[1]
Probably related to कुरुविन्द (kuruvinda, “ruby”) (for the semantic relation, compare Sanskrit पद्म (padma, “lotus”) and पद्मराग (padmarāga, “ruby”, literally “lotus-coloured”)(Can this(+) etymology be sourced?).
