Classical Mandaic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Presumably from Hebrew ירושלים, ultimately from a Western Semitic form attested in Ancient Egyptian as
(ꜣwšꜣmm), a compound of Semitic *uru (“house, town”) and *salim, which meant either "peace" or "Shalim, Canaanite goddess of twilight".
