Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀧𑁂𑀰𑀓𑀸𑀭 (*peśakāra) (compare Sanskrit पेशस्कारी (peśaskārī́, female embroiderer), Pali pesakāra). Cognate with Sinhalese පෙහෙරා (peherā).
