[edit]From Aramaic תְּמָנֶא (tmānē), from Proto-Semitic *ṯamāniyat-; compare Arabic ثَمَانٍ (ṯamānin) and Hebrew שְׁמוֹנֶה (sh'moné).

Usage notes
[edit]- In some dialects of colloquial Assyrian Neo-Aramaic, the form ܬܡܵܢܝܵܐ (tmānyā) is often used regardless of gender.
- As a number, stress falls on the last syllable rather than the penultimate when enumerating a noun after it.
