[edit]Borrowed from Persian توپ (top, “ball, knob, cannon”), from Ottoman Turkish طوپ (top), from Proto-Turkic *top (“round object”); compare also borrowed into Iraqi Arabic طوبة (ṭobe, “soccer”).
