[edit]From Aramaic, from Akkadian 𒈬𒅎𒈠 (šaddaqdam), from 𒈬 (šattum, “year”) + 𒂵𒀜𒈬𒌝 (qadmum, “early, before”). Compare Classical Syriac ܐܫܬܩܕ (ʾeštəqaḏ, ʾeštəqady) and Hebrew אֶשְׁתָּקַד (ʾeštāqaḏ).
