[edit]From ܫܠܝܚܐ (šəlīḥāʾ, “messenger”), from the root ܫ-ܠ-ܚ (š-l-ḥ) related to sending + the abstract noun ending -ܘܬܐ (-ūṯāʾ). Compare Hebrew שְׁלִיחוּת (šəlîḥûṯ).
