From Akkadian 𒄑𒅇𒆪 (^GIŠÙ.SUḪ₅ /⁠ašūḫu⁠/), from Hurrian 𒀸𒌋𒄭 (AŠ.U.ḪI /⁠ašoḫe⁠/, “fir; mealtime (due to cooking fumes)”). Also Jewish Palestinian Aramaic שׁוּחָא (/⁠šūḥā⁠/, “fir”), Jewish Babylonian Aramaic אֲשׁוּחִי (/⁠ʾăšūḥī⁠/, “fir”), Classical Mandaic ࡀࡔࡅࡇࡀ (/⁠ʾašūḥā⁠/, “fir”), Hebrew אַשּׁוּחַ (ʾaššūaḥ, “fir”), Arabic شُوح (šūḥ, “fir”).
