[edit]From Akkadian 𒄑𒅇𒆪 (GIŠÙ.SUḪ5 /ašūḫu/), from Hurrian 𒀸𒌋𒄭 (AŠ.U.ḪI /ašoḫe/, “fir; mealtime (due to cooking fumes)”). Also Jewish Palestinian Aramaic שׁוּחָא (/šūḥā/, “fir”), Jewish Babylonian Aramaic אֲשׁוּחִי (/ʾăšūḥī/, “fir”), Classical Mandaic ࡀࡔࡅࡇࡀ (/ʾašūḥā/, “fir”), Hebrew אַשּׁוּחַ (ʾaššūaḥ, “fir”), Arabic شُوح (šūḥ, “fir”).
