Etymology

From ܪܚܡܢܐ (raḥmānāʾ, merciful), from the root ܪ-ܚ-ܡ (r-ḥ-m) related to loving + the abstract noun ending -ܘܬܐ (-ūṯāʾ). Compare Hebrew רַחְמָנוּת (raḥmānûṯ).
