[edit]Borrowed from Persian کرد (“Kurdish, nomad”) or Northern Kurdish kurd, or a predecessor. Most likely ultimately from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (kwrt /kurd/), of uncertain origin, assumed from Proto-Indo-European *kerdʰ- (“herd”).
