From Middle Iranian *frēstak. Compare Avestan 𐬟𐬭𐬀𐬉𐬱𐬙𐬀 (fraēšta, messenger), Middle Persian plystk' (frēstag, apostle, angel) / prystg, Persian فرشته (ferešte, angel), and Jewish Babylonian Aramaic פְּרֵיסְתְּקָא (pərêstəqāʾ, royal guard, messenger).
