Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac ܦܢܕܩܐ, from Ancient Greek πανδοκεῖον (pandokeîon); compare also the variant form of Classical Syriac ܦܘܬܩܐ (puttəqā); also Arabic فُنْدُق (funduq) and Hebrew פּוּנְדָק (pundák).
