[edit]From ܢܒܝܐ (nəḇīyā, “prophet”), from Hebrew נָבִיא (nāḇîʾ) + the abstract noun ending -ܘܬܐ (-ūṯā). Compare Arabic نُبُوءَة (nubūʔa) and Hebrew נְבִיאוּת (nəḇîʾûṯ).
