Assyrian Neo-Aramaic

[edit]
ܠܩܠܩܐ

Etymology

[edit]

From Akkadian 𒀀𒊩𒄷 (/laqlaqqu/, stork); compare also in Arabic لَقْلَق (laqlaq) and Persian لک‌لک (lak-lak). It is possible that the term is borrowed from Arabic which itself may have come from Akkadian via an unattested previous form of Aramaic.
