[edit]From Aramaic כּוֹתְלָא (kōṯlā), from Akkadian 𒄘𒋻 (/kutallu/, “behind, back of the head, backside, rear part of a structure”); compare Hebrew כֹּתֶל (kótel, “city wall”); compare also borrowed into Arabic كَوْثَلّ (kawṯall).
