From ܟܘܟܒܐ (kawkəḇā, star), from Proto-Semitic *kabkab- + ܛܥܝܐ (ṭāʿyāʾ, wandering). Compare Ancient Greek πλᾰνήτης (planḗtēs, planet, wanderer).
