Learned borrowing from Classical Syriac, from Aramaic יַסְמָא (yasmā), from Middle Persian [Book Pahlavi needed] (yʾsmn'); compare Persian یاسمن (yâsaman), Sogdian 𐫝𐫀𐫢𐫖𐫗 (cʾšmn /⁠jāsmin⁠/) and other Iranian borrowings.
