[edit]From חִיוֵי (ḥəwē)/ܚܘܹܐ (ḥwē), the absolute form of Aramaic חֶוְיָא (ḥewyā, “snake”); compare Lishana Deni כוויה (xuwwe), Classical Syriac ܚܘܝܐ (ḥewyā) and Arabic حَيَّة (ḥayya).
