Etymology

From the root ܙ-ܘ-ܓ (z-w-ɡ) related to joining, from Ancient Greek ζυγόν (zugón) or ζεῦγος (zeûgos), from Proto-Indo-European *yugóm (yoke). Compare Arabic زَوَاج (zawāj) and Hebrew זִוּוּג (ziwwûḡ).
