Influnced by Arabic هِنْدُوسِيّ (hindūsiyy), from ܗܸܢܕܘܼܫ (hindūš, Indus river) +‎ -ܝܐ (-āyā, the attributive adjective ending). Itself from Old Persian 𐏃𐎡𐎯𐎢𐏁 (hinduš), from Sanskrit सिन्धु (síndhu, river, the Indus).
