[edit]From ܒܬܘܠܐ (b(ə)ṯūlā, “virgin”) + -ܘܬܐ (-ūṯā, abstract noun ending). Compare Arabic بَتُولِيَّة (batūliyya) and Hebrew בְּתוּלִים (bəṯûlîm).
